Reasons Why Men Tend to Be Afraid of Commitment And What You Can Do

Commitment is a scary word for many men and women just don't get it since a woman feels loved in a deeper way by a man who is committed to her than one who just professes his love without committing to her. A commitment can be defined as being bound to each other by a contract or promise that by its very nature restricts both your freedoms of actions and movements. You both thus must give up some things' in order to be in a committed relationship. So what are the key reasons why men tend to be afraid of commitment?

What a man thinks!
When a man hears the word commitment what images come to his mind? If the word commitment conjures up images of lifelong imprisonment without the possibility of parole or of himself like a deer caught in the headlights of a car or himself being enslaved to your whims and fancies forever or being trapped like a rabbit in a trap then this man will tend to be very afraid of commitment. If this is your man then your nagging or pushing for a commitment just makes him even more afraid as the prison-like situation looms larger the more you push. The more you push the more afraid he becomes and the more frustrated you get. What does your man think of when he hears you saying the word commitment? Stop pushing and find out what your man visualizes when he hears the word commitment so that you can solve the real problem and not keep getting caught up in the symptoms of his fearful mind.

What a man feels!
A man tends to be afraid of commitment if it makes him feel trapped or emasculated or deprived in any way. His reality is what he feels so if his feelings about commitment are negative then he will tend to be afraid of commitment. Does he feel like he will be denying himself some crucial things if he makes a commitment to you? Does he have an irrational fear about commitment? A man with negative feelings about commitment will be afraid of commitment and if he does commit to you he will give himself permission to either treat you badly or to cheat on you since he will resent you for pushing him into an untenable position. You need to help him sort through his irrational feelings about commitment so that if he ever commits to you he will do so willingly and with the correct feelings.

The environment that a man is in!
If a man hangs out with single happy go lucky friends or he grew up surrounded by unhappy committed relationships or if his close friends are in miserable committed relationships then he will naturally be afraid of commitment. This is usually the hardest situation to deal with since you will be hard pressed to get him to change his environment. He will not want to change his friends or close friends; or get new ones. You may need to get professional help so that he can see commitment without the blinders of his environment.

The key reasons why men tend to be afraid of commitment have nothing to do with you. You may make the fear worse by your personality or behavior but that is because you just magnify the fear. Most men can step back from the 3 key influences but because many don't deal with the underlying fears they rear their ugly heads later on in your committed relationship. Men who cheat because they are envious of their single friends and feel deprived come to mind. Help him deal with his commitment fear before he commits to you.
