Set a Goal - Know What You Want
Many first timers dive in before giving much thought as to what they want from online dating. Are you interested in casual relationships or are you looking for a specific person to marry? Maybe you just want a friend to hangout with.
Set a goal as to what you want your online dating experience to be and set a path to achieve that goal, otherwise you could end up wasting time, having hurt feelings and disappointing results.
Waiting Too Long to Make a Date
Some online daters drag out the online relationship for months or years before finally meeting. If you are interested in the person, make a date!
It is good to get to know the other person for a while before meeting, but you can only learn so much through email and chat. The true test comes from meeting in-person.
When you do meet for the first time, be sure you do so in a safe place.
Making a Date Too Quickly
You join an online dating site and immediately make a date with someone that interests you. Slow down!
What do you really know about this person. Do you have the same interests? How about the same philosophies?
Learn something about each other first and see if you still do want to meet them. Nothing is worse than going on a date and discovering you have nothing in common. Avoid wasting time and money.
Gut Feeling
After a period of connecting online and your gut feeling says to you that there may be something here, then go on a date. Alternatively, if your gut tells you something is not right, you should move on to finding someone else.
You should not waste time on dead end relationships, nor should you pass on opportunities. By knowing what you want before you start dating online, you will save yourself from wasting time, hurt feelings and frustration. |
