Matchmaking Tips on How to Hire a Matchmaker Part 2

Author: Janis Spindel

1. Presentation is everything - and spelling counts. - Keep your basic information short on a personal ad. As a first impression, men are impressed by your picture and your basic profile. Now is not the time to spill out your life.

2. Do's (and one don't) of Internet and print personals - There are several things to keep in mind. Being persistent, clear in language, and be creative and spread out that ad in several places. Very important to also be honest about yourself and follow the rules of the magazine or site.

3. Make your headlines hot. - Your headline is a great start to get the attention of prospective men. Don't overdo it by giving out provocative or misleading titles. Say something succinct about you that will make them want to find out more.

4. Write an ad that will attract without disappointing. - Three things: a picture that reflects you (looking attractive); concise description; and profile stats that's reflective of who you are.

5. "Read" men's ads and online descriptions. - Try really to look beneath the surface with men's profiles. Yes, they lie as well about their appearance, such as height, and also their age. Go with your gut feeling, and only agree to meet after you've felt comfortable talking to him online.

6. Sharing information safely. - Be very careful with your personal information, such as phone numbers and addresses. Play it safe. Don't get pressured to meet, and only meet in public places.

7. Play it safe. - Be on the look out for behavioral signs that may say something about the parts of his life that he may be hiding, such that he is married or he is an aggressive person.

Bonus tip: Use email etiquette. - Just think of how you would talk to him, and write him emails that are equally polite and friendly. Don't let impersonal chats make you forget about etiquette!

There are definitely more to keep in mind. You may not be face-to-face with online dating, but because it involves different ways of interactions, you'll need different communication skills. This is where a Matchmaker steps in with more tips in Part 3!
